How it all started
Mutts in the 6ix started with our rescue pup Layla, who like many dogs, can't stand to be left alone. Early 2023 my business partner had to move to Texas for her PhD research. Since my work is remote, I tagged along, and took the opportunity to examine the growing American dog bar market. Dog bars started as the win-win solution to a long road trip where we could all have a "big stretch". We quickly realized, they are vibrant community hubs with the potential to offer something cleaner, safer and more fun than a city dog park, something we believe Toronto needs.
We spent five months travelling to different off-leash dog cafes and bars researching this market. Layla would socialize and play while we would connect with staff and customers to learn about their experience in these environments. This provided us with invaluable insight. Even more, it provided a blueprint on how to bring this compelling industry back to our home city-Toronto. After seeing Layla happiest in these spaces, we are beyond excited to bring this concept to Toronto through events, and one day, a permanent location. |
Mutts Gives Back
Mutts in the 6ix was created for those who love dogs, and want to give back to the four-legged friends who provide us with infinite joy. That’s why our events have two focuses: Providing a space that fills your dog with happiness and providing a networking & adoption space for rescue agencies.
